Zusammenfassung:The acceptance of women into the mainstream of public accounting is changing the traditional concept of a male-dominated certified public accountant (CPA) management team. While only a few women have reached the partnership level, only 3% of partners at the largest firms, women are moving into the management ranks in significant numbers. Since women represent about half of new hires, more CPA firms will be filling management openings with women. According to an AICPA survey, roadblocks remain in the path of women seeking a successful career in public accounting. Two problem areas are professional development and family planning. A new special AICPA report provides suggestions for improving women's chances for promotion. These include: 1. encouraging an informal mentor system, and 2. confronting issues related to the upward mobility of women professionals.
