Accountants with 'HEART'

People are usually afraid of their auditor, says Gary Heinfeld, co-founder and managing partner of Arizona accounting firm Heinfeld, Meech & Co PC. But Heinfeld Meech clients use terms like "nice," "helpful" and "great staff" to describe the firm's auditors. Such reactions may explain why the firm debuted this year at No. 4 on the Best Small Companies to Work for in America list. Heinfeld and co-founder Nancy Meech say the company goes the extra step for clients by telling them how to fix any problems the auditors find. Fun is a big part of the culture for the firm's 60-plus employees.
