Candu PLEX plans

Candu 6 has been operating for nearly 30 years across four continents; and all eight units have always been among the world's best in terms of load factors. To continue this performance for up to a further 30 years, a few safety upgrades are needed and a few items need to be refurbished, including the pressure tubes. Based on work carried out in the 1980s and 1990s, a comprehensive methodology has been developed for retubing, refurbishing the nuclear island and plant facilities and performing safety upgrades. Retubing involves replacing the entire reactor set of fuel channels, calandria tubes and feeders. The scope of the project is discussed and details are provided for condition assessment, safety assessment, the need and scope for retubing and putting the plan into practice.
