When you find out the mileage or year of the vehicle, if applicable, ask if the consumer has replaced their oxygen sensors. Unheated thimble-type oxygen sensors (on 1976 to early 1990 vehicles) should be replaced every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. First generation heated thimble-type oxygen sensors (1982 to mid-1990 vehicles) should be replaced every 60,000 miles. second generation heated thimble-type or heated planar oxygen sensors (mid-1990 to current vehicles) should be replaced at 100,000 miles.
