According to the Hobby Industry Association (HIA), sales of all needlecraft supplies (including yarn, string, knitting needles, etc.) increased to $8.5 billion in 2002, from $7.4 billion in 2001. However, the number of knitters reported by the association remained unchanged during that same period.
