Zusammenfassung:The term of “information literacy” is recognized differently in English speaking countries and in Japan. As information literacy is recognized as related term to library in some countries, in Japan, information literacy is interpreted as “Information Technology (IT) literacy”. This article aims to examine how the concept of information literacy was developed in 1980’s US and how it gave influence Japanese education especially ICT education from a historical point of view. Finally, the issues and prospect around information literacy in school library in Japan are discussed.
