Zusammenfassung: | The sale of BRS Online Products by MHC Inc., the holding company for parent company Macmillin Inc. and InfoPro Technologies, to CD Plus Technologies was finalized on March 1, 1994. There is a real synergy in this merger, with each company focusing on biomedical databases. Now customers can make real choices among modes of information delivery. This acquisition provides media-independent access to biomedical information ranging from CD-ROM to local area networks to centrally-loaded online databases via the Internet or dial-up telephone lines. An examination of CD Plus and its plans for the BRS databases is presented. The very near future during the changeover to CDP Online, the online service arm of CD Plus Technologies, may be rocky. While the emulation of the BRS system is similar to BRS, there are enough differences that users may require some time to adapt. The long-range future looks promising, since CD Plus is in the forefront of client-server technology. |
