Since some of Russia's current ambitions (e.g., maintaining frozen conflicts, destabilizing neighbors, breaking apart NATO, and changing the current balance of European security) are counter to U.S. national interests, these ambitions will likely require a U.S. and Western application of the instruments of national power to counter.
