Zusammenfassung:The public sector has experienced cutbacks that have thrust a number of union members into positions of responsibilities formerly held by the management. These supervisors can still retain their membership in the collective bargaining unit while concomitantly being held responsible for ensuring the crew completes tasks and duties in an efficient and safe manner. However, there are a number of issues facing the employees in these new roles and also for the union members reporting to them. Supervisors may be uncertain when they must report incidences. Supervisor and employees may be lax in following rules. Also, supervisors may face repercussions from union members and officials. When faced with such situations, managers and supervisors must be prepared in terms of steps they can take to minimize conflict yet fulfill the obligations of the workplace. This can be addressed in part by having written guidelines and policies of which all employees are aware.
