Zusammenfassung:In their book, The Cynical Americans, Kantor and Mirvis report that 43% of US workers are cynics, mistrusting management and believing that companies will take advantage of them. Kantor and Mirvis found credibility to be the major antidote to cynicism. People will be loyal to a leader who has earned employees' respect. The company should allow and help employees to distinguish themselves. Management should be available to answer questions and remove obstacles that cause employees' difficulties. Lack of respect for customers is a key ingredient in a cynical company, and many employees take their frustration out on the customers. The key to a productive company is employee involvement. The dividends from sharing power can be remarkable. Two employee involvement approaches projected to spread in the 1990s are self-managing work teams and gain-sharing compensation plans. Companies that share the pain during hard times should be willing to share the spoils during good times.
