Display symposium offers lots to look at

The display industry is fantastically profitable and growing quickly. There's more technical diversity in the products on the market, and many new technologies are being developed. The growing popularity of high-definition television is the biggest factor, but not all these new displays are high-def. Plenty of people are buying wide-screen TVs for regular 480-line content - what is now called standard definition. The second interesting class of new screens is for personal computers. Organic light-emitting diode displays, also called organic electroluminescent displays, may eventually span the TV and PC markets.
