Zusammenfassung: | For decades, pretreatments containing hexavalent chromium have been the technology of choice for many metal substrates in the coil coating industry. However, more recently, chromium based pretreatments have increasingly lost market share due to changed legal regulations, market demands and mounting awareness of the issues and costs related to health, safety and environmental protection. Chrome (VI) free pretreatment technologies have been successfully introduced, tested and proven to be reliable alternative metal pretreatments. The Chrome (VI) free pretreatments contain no hexavalent chromium, and therefore, no mutagens or carcinogens. Chrome (VI) Free pretreatments are comprised of organic and inorganic chemicals that physically bond the organic coatings to the applied pretreatment. This results in a real chemical bonding as opposed to wetting of the substrate that occurs with chromium based pretreatments. Additionally, the Chrome (VI) Free Pretreatments provide excellent adhesion characteristics through a morphologically rough surface that enhances bonding by having the primer or paint lock physically onto the pretreatment. |
