KEEPING THE Change Alive

The creation of the blog is an action step in our building improvement plan and supports multiple building goals: to improve student achievement in reading, writing, math, and science and to improve our climate and culture.\n Results indicated a strong preference for immediate and ongoing communication through Facebook and a texting service. PARENT SEMINARS A powerful strategy for school and community relations emerged in spring 2013 when the parent of a sixth-grade student made the observation that although much was done to support students during the middle school transition, little guidance was offered to parents. Together we identified topics of interest for the upcoming school year: * School clubs, activities, and intramurals * Math night, including a discussion of Common Core State Standards * Science and technology night * English language arts night * Parent-child engagement * Social media and cyberbullying * Bullying, including school prevention efforts and how to recognize the warning signs at home * Nutrition and wellness for the middle level * Standards-based assessment and reporting practices.
