Zusammenfassung: | Reviews Lowry and the Painting of Modern Life at the Tate Britain, until October 20 2013, and the accompanying book of the same name by T.J. Clark and Anne M. Wagner, an exhibition that brings together around ninety of Lowry's industrial type landscape paintings, which demonstrates what he is best known for. The exhibition and the book dispel the myth that Lowry only ever painted his hometown, he actually travelled quite a lot, especially after his retirement, he even went to London occasionally, shown by his painting entitled Piccadilly Circus (1960). It also been a notion that Lowry never received the recognition he deserved, however he was well-known enough to be made an official war artist then later an official artist for the Coronation in 1953, and two years later he was elected to the Royal Academy, he was offered a knighthood but refused.
