Zusammenfassung:For the first time corundum ceramics are treated with an electron beam, and they are also fired at high temperature with surface coatings made from high-melting and refractory compounds, i.e. titanium diboride, boron and zirconium carbides. Coatings are applied with magnetron deposition and a newly developed mechanochemical method. In all cases there is a considerable increase in the microhardness of treated materials and in some cases an increase in bending strength.
