Zusammenfassung:The possibility of effective surface hardening of articles due to the use of highly concentrated energy fluxes is considered with allowance for the effect of the arising thermal stresses on the changes in the temperature range of austenitic transformation. The determined dependences of hardness on the power density and on the rate of the treatment are used to show the possibility of attaining high hardness due to heating to a temperature 150 – 200 K lower than the melting point.
