Effect of heating conditions on contact stresses when rolling granules of metastable aluminum alloys

Zusammenfassung:We have studied the effect of the heating temperature and isothermal holding time for rapidly solidified high-alloy aluminum alloys on their microstructure, macrohardness, and contact stresses during rolling. We have found that the relationship between holding time and mean contact stress has a minimum that is connected with dissolution and coagulation of intermetallic phases and silicon crystals. Increasing the holding time leads to coarsening of the structure and an increase in the hardness and rolling force.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
