Zusammenfassung: | Multiculturalism that has been positioned against the particularistic ideology of nationalism suffers from two theoretical and practical problems: to grant the right to define different groups in a society to the hands of states and to avoid bestowing special rights to the groups that have immigrated for voluntary purposes. In this article, it will be demonstrated how these two problems are put into practice in the troubled European case, and how they create obstacles for reaching out to a properly functioning multicultural regime in the continent.
