Zusammenfassung: | High relative molecular mass material (chlorolignins) in spent liquors from the chlorination and alkali extraction stages of the bleaching of softwood kraft pulp yields chlorinated phenolic and Ames test mutagenic compounds when treated with chlorine under conditions similar to those used in the disinfection of drinking water. Per unit weight of total organic carbon (TOC) the quantities are comparable to those formed in the chlorination of naturally occurring aquatic humic acid. |
