Zusammenfassung:	Gas-phase hydrocarbons generated by motor vehicles in highway operation were surveyed in the Allegheny Mountain Tunnel of the Pennsylvania turnpike in 1979. Samples were analyzed by glass-capillary gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Approximately 400 vehicle-generated compounds were detected. The compounds identified fall into homologous series of normal and branched alkanes, alkenes, and various alkyl series.
