Attempts to systematically construct the Italian Mannerist painter and architect's views on theory as espoused in his 1607 treatise "L'idea de pittori, scultori et architetti" ("Ideas of painters, sculptors and architects"). Recognizes the influence of ancient philosophical theory on Zuccari's writing. Notes ways in which the text affected the Counter-Reformation movement, as well as views on the arts during the 17th century.
