Spatial and demographic change in nineteenth-century San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1800-1868

A case study of the demographic changes in Puerto Rico's most important 19th-century urban center--San Juan--is offered. The reasons behind the demographic shift San Juan experienced between 1800 and 1868 are examined.
