Zusammenfassung: | From the 1980s, towards the end of a turbulent 20m century, Latin America made its peace with democracy. A singular and remarkable movement appeared that was to become known as the Latin American New Left. However, the political forms adopted by these left-wing movements in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay and Venezuela were very different. In this article we will sketch a panorama of the Latin American 'Lefts' and their relations with republican democracy. In particular, we will analyse the case of Argentina, while discussing the utility of the concept of the New Left in characterising this political phenomenon. Adapted from the source document. |
