The following studies are reviewed : (1) "Gothic arches, Latin crosses : anti-Catholicism and American church designs in the 19th-century," by Ryan K. Smith (University of North Carolina Press, 2006); and (2) "American sanctuary : understanding sacred spaces," edited by Louis P. Nelson (Indiana University Press, 2006). Both use interdisciplinary methodology to examine the history and culture of religious spaces in America.
