Dirck van Baburen's 'Achilles before the dead body of Patroclus' acquired by the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Kassel

In 2009 the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Kassel, succeeded in acquiring "Achilles before the dead body of Patroclus" (1624), a major work by Dirck van Baburen (1594/95-1624). Representing a memorable but rarely depicted scene form the Trojan War, this acquisition is of particular importance for the Gemäldegalerie, which has few large-scale Dutch history paintings. The Utrecht Carravaggists are well represented by other masters, but not until now by van Baburen. (Quotes from original text)
