Zusammenfassung: | A crack growth model for high pH stress corrosion cracking of pipeline steels is presented based on the assumption that the cracking is dominated by the repeated rupture of passive film at the crack tip. The model is validated by the experimental data available. It provides a reasonably good prediction to effects of various factors relating to materials, environment and loading conditions. Although the fatigue damage produced in operation of gas lines is negligible, the contribution due to cyclic load-promoted crack tip dissolution needs to be considered in remaining life prediction. Finally, the procedure for field application is discussed. |
