Interview: Richard Garside

Stacey interviews Richard Garside, director of the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, regarding his views on the relatively high national imprisonment rate in the UK and what should be done to reduce it. He stresses that there is some quite significant research evidence that points to the fact that the size of a prison population is related to the underlying social processes of any given society. Among other things, he tells whether there are ways in which the charitable sector and citizens can make a new and different contribution to prisons and rehabilitation.
