Zusammenfassung:The physical education thought is expressed in the famous Japanese educationalist Kuniyoshi Obara's "holistic education" theory and the Chinese well-known educationalist Yang Xianjiang's "life-wide guidance" theory, both of which have produced far-reaching influence in each country. But there are few researches or any attention on their theories and thoughts so far. By means of literature review, the authors have compared and analyzed their ideas of physical education. It is noted that Kuniyoshi Obara's ideology of PE is guided by his religious views and reflects some negative element, while Yang' ideology of PE is guided by Marxism and his ideas are more positive, which means their philosophical bases are different. Under the background of almost the same era, both of them have paid great attention on the unique function of PE in education and the issue of reform of school PE; both of them understand the value connotation of competitive sports and emphasize the function of competitive sports.
