Zusammenfassung: | A rejoinder to Deborah Cameron's (1999) response to Preisler's review article, "Deconstructing Feminist Linguistics" (1998). It is argued that Cameron has seriously misrepresented the aims of the original article. Rather than a full-scale attack on feminism, the article lauds some authors & is critical of others. Cameron is mistaken in denying that an intellectual climate exists in the field of language & gender in which critical commentary is typically interpreted as an attack on feminism. While Cameron's comments may be commendable for their fealty to the authors reviewed, her approach to this task amply demonstrates the primary point of the essay: many feminist linguists embrace ideological solidarity over & above intellectual difference.
