Zusammenfassung: | The history, occurrence attestations, meanings, documented uses, & lexicographic treatment of the word dispendiar 'to spend, to waste' in Contemporary Spanish are briefly discussed. The lexeme's English origin is traced, & its absence in major & most representative lexicons of the Spanish language is noted. It is observed that although frequently attested in journalistic register, it is generally ignored by lexicographers; however, two of its derivatives -- dispendio 'waste, extravagance' & dispendioso 'expensive' -- have become well assimilated in contemporary Spanish usage & can be found in most dictionaries.
