Zusammenfassung:Teacher cognition research explores teachers' "mental world" -- their beliefs, thinking & knowledge -- to understand how these shape & are shaped by teachers' practice. The purpose of the research is to help enhance teachers' awareness of their practice via reflection & to deepen the understanding of teacher development processes. This article includes the following 4 sections: (1) providing the broad background against which the evolution of teacher cognition research is discussed, (2) presenting a framework of the research & examining selected research issues, (3) considering the connection between teacher cognition research & teacher development, & (4) the significance of this research to the promotion of the Chinese language to the world.
