Zusammenfassung:The principal aim of this research is to identify textual functions based on the distribution of Lithuanian common words & word-forms & to test the possibility of categorizing texts according to their functional properties. The methodology of this work is based on empirical language evidence, which is analyzed quantitatively (by factor analysis) & qualitatively (by interpretation of quantitative results). Seven text functions & their paradigms have been identified & described in the research: spontaneous expressiveness, narrativeness, directiveness, prepared expressiveness, persuasiveness, descriptiveness, & temporality.
