Dynamic Analysis of the Development of the Stereotypes in Intercultural Communication

It is well recognized by socio-psychology that direct contacts among different groups of people will lead to the elimination of stereotypes & to better communication. However, based on the dynamic analysis of the stereotypes in foreign cultures experienced by Chinese university students before & after going abroad, it is indicated that stereotypes exhibit certain degrees of rigidity & variability & direct contacts not only fail to eliminate most stereotypes, but also reinforce some stereotypes & may result in the formation of new stereotypes.
