Zusammenfassung:The debate of small state as a model of development has again surfaced in the wake of regional identity versus development debate. When the voices for different provincial states under Indian Union has been aired from different corners of the country this paper attempts to analyze the demand for separate statehood and regional aspiration. This paper also makes an attempt that how far demand for Poorvanchal state is reasonable and feasible. The regional disparity and poverty was inherited to independent India from the colonial period. But some areas were worse and in much pity condition in comparison to other regions, Poorvanchal (eastern U.P.) region is one amongst that. Regional aspiration is interplay of several factors, and developmental factor plays the role of a catalyst. Administrative structure and delivery system of eastern UP region has been almost collapsed, with corruption and inefficiency surpassing the general and common interests of people. But why despite all these factors public opinion of this region has not been matured enough for the demand of separate state? Adapted from the source document.
