Bortzerriak Basque. Inside the [Dis]Similarities from Village to Village, Part 1

This paper is the first part of a research work on the Basque of Bortzerriak-Five Villages. In this first approach, apart from presenting some data about Bortzerriak, a sociological introduction of the area to be investigated is offered. Making use of these data, it is possible to know the socio-spatial dynamic of Bortzerriak. Then, we proceed to briefly inform (from Prince Bonaparte's period to the present) about the dialectal status of the speech of Bortzerriak. Once we reach this point, the language features of our area become important in order to identify the exact geographical extension of the properties of Bortzerrian Basque. Thus, it is made possible to measure out the linguistic identity of Bortzerriak. In the first part we describe the main aspects of the phonetic-phonology & nominal morphology. 46 References.
