Zusammenfassung: | Six Armenian words beginning with b- (bag 'snout', bacin 'fish', bak 'spade, hoe', bore 'hyena', burd 'wool', & burgn 'tower') are shown to have Northeast Caucasian (NEC) correspondences suggesting Armenian borrowings from Hurro-Urartian (HU) in light of the relationship between HU & NEC established by Igor M. Diakonoff & Sergei A. Starostin (1986). As these forms are only 9% of the Armenian b- words reflecting a non-Indo-European substrate, they show that HU is not a major part of the substrate. 5 References. J. Hitchcock |
