New Research in Spanish Metalanguage

This is a follow-up to an earlier report (Gonzalez Ruiz y Loureda Lamas, in press) of studies conducted in Spanish linguistics by the research group "Lo metalinguistico en espanol" (The Metalinguistic in Spanish). Theoretical, descriptive, & applicational aspects of this research are described, discussing (1) the definition & delimitation of the terms metalenguaje 'metalanguage' & metalinguistico 'metalinguistic,' (2) the elaboration of the typology of metalanguage, (3) the distinction between metalinguistic discourse & the metalanguage of language, (4) metalinguistics as a reflection on language, (5) implicit metalinguistic culture in Spanish: (A) metalinguistic vocabulary, (B) metalinguistic terminology, (C) metalinguistic phraseology, & (D) metalinguistic paremiology, & (6) the applicability of metalinguistic research in language instruction. 37 References.
