Zusammenfassung: | Part 2 (for part 1 see Faventia, 2004, 26, 1) furnishes statistical data on the coordination & juxtaposition of adjectives & their occurrence in pre, post- & pre-/post- positions in Plato's, Herodotus's, & Thucydides's texts. It also establishes 11 semantic classes & tabulates % values for their presence in the writings of these three authors: (1) subjective appraisal, (2) dimension, (3) age, (4) acquired quality, (5) inherent quality, (6) color, (7) matter, (8) origin/provenance & location/position, (9) possession, (10) typical characteristics, & (11) purpose/intention. Examples of each class are excerpted from Plato's, Herodotus's, & Thucydides's texts. R. Risselada's (1985) 15 semantic classes proposed for Latin adjectives are reproduced for comparison. The coordination & juxtaposition of adjectives in Ancient Greek poetry are also discussed, tabulating quantitative values for the Iliad. 8 Tables, 54 References. Z. Dubiel |
