Some Causal Connectors: Comme-etant donne que-sous pretexte que

Casual connectors derived from a corpus of Quebecois news articles are analyzed. Initially, comme 'as', etant donne que 'given that', & sous pretexte que 'under the pretext that' are examined concerning their syntactic & logical properties when they occur in connection with, eg, adverbial modification, negation, & interrogation. The enunciative roles of the three connectors are explored, & parallels with car 'as, because', parce que 'because' & puisque 'since' investigated.
