Greatness and Servitude in the Use of the Political Cartoon in the Language Class

The political drawing or cartoon provides an excellent means of introducing language students to the culture & society that support that language. Some guidelines for teachers selecting drawings for use in the classroom are outlined, including the importance of selecting topics that are timely yet universal, & using drawings that are complex enough to provide a significant basis for discussion. A general description of different kinds of characters & concepts that may appear in these drawings, & how to exploit them in the classroom, is presented. 15 References. B. Annesser Murray
