Zusammenfassung: | The phonological rules applied to recent loanwords in Hungarian are examined. The phonological data on Hungarian loanwords, primarily from German & English, are surveyed & discussed. It is claimed that a consonant lengthening rule, borrowed consonant lengthening (BCL), applies to loanwords & that BCL may work in conjunction with a lexical feature: [+Foreign]. The application of the BCL rule in various phonological environments is examined, & a summary of the analysis is provided. 7 References. J. Easton |
