Zusammenfassung: | Several English syntactic constructions are examined that, as a group, suggest that every English verb is associated with a category-neutral abstract clitic position. It is further argued that this position is universal, & a system based on this claim is outlined. The prefix re- is argued to be a marker of the "invisible" clitic position.
