Tibor Mikola: 19 February 1936-13 June 2000

An obituary note commemorating Hungarian linguist Tibor Mikola. His studies of German & Hungarian at Budapest U, aptitude for Germanic languages, & translational skills are mentioned. Mikola's works in Hungarian language history, the origin of determinative conjugation, the phonology of Proto-Hungarian consonants, the history of word-final vowels in Permian, the origin of reduced vowels in Cheremis, & the origin of Finnish diphthongs are acknowledged as significant achievements in Finno-Ugric & Uralic linguistics.
