Zusammenfassung:The lexical development of Chilean children (N = 1,393, aged 3-6) from the Biobio & Metropolitan areas was investigated, using the Test de Vocabulario en Imagenes ([Picture Vocabulary Test], Echeverria, Max, Herrera, & Vega, Miguelina, 1993) at both the beginning & the end of the school year. As a result, it was observed that the great majority did not reach the norm established by the test, that children improved between the two measurements, & that preschool attendance favored the children's lexical development. The mean score among boys was significantly higher than that of girls. Significant correlations were found relating to variables of the children's families. 8 Tables, 17 References.
