Zusammenfassung: | Croatian third graders with & without reading difficulties (N = 59 each) performed a battery of mathematical tests, & the latter outperformed the former on all tasks, although both groups had similar difficulties with problem formulation & function & operation choice dependent on mathematical language knowledge. Although reading, writing, & arithmetic represent seemingly different kinds of knowledge, it is possible that difficulties in these basic scholastic subjects have a common basis connected to insufficient processing of symbolic & conceptual knowledge, information processing ability, & inadequate lexical skills. 3 Tables, 1 Figure, 1 Appendix, 19 References.
