Liberal Thinkers in Contemporary Italy. Critical Testimony

Some reflections on Luigi M. Persone, well known contributor to numerous It journals, are offered. In him, the curiosity for understanding literati & artists & the ability to describe them are very much alive. Evidence for this can be found in Pittori toscani del novecento (Tuscan Painters of the Nineteenth Century), published in 1952 as well as in Scrittori italiani moderni e contemporanei (Modern and Contemporary Italian Writers), which appeared in 1968. Thirteen essays dealing with issues of contemporary Italy are reviewed. Persone's expertise as interpretor of Machiavelli & Roberto Ridolfi is also shown. The book has high merit. S. Whittle
