Zusammenfassung: | This work contains a discussion of Proto-Takanan phonology, as well as one of Proto-Pano-Takan phonology. The introduction includes the geographical distribution of the languages examined, classification problems in South American linguistics, & the scope, contents, & criteria of the analysis. Part I discusses prior research on the Takanan languages, & provides phonemic charts of 3 languages -- Takana, Kavineno, & Ese'exa. Also, Mary Ritchie Dey's work on Proto-Takanan is discussed. A section on the protolanguage, a classification of the Takanan languages, & a dictionary of Proto-Takanan are also included. Part II suggests a hypothesis for Proto-Pano-Takanan based upon Key's work. Part III is an annotated bibliography of works on the Panoan & Takanan languages; a list of references is given. J.
