Zusammenfassung:The seventeenth century saw a widening of the range of langs with which British scholars were acquainted, both from the IE family (Irish, Russian) & from other lang groups such as Turkish & Arabic. Reasons for the growth of interest in these langs are examined. Also discussed are different approaches to lang teaching methodology.
