Zusammenfassung: | The training of professionals in the Brazilian educational system is examined in relation to the problem of developing literacy skills. It is suggested that technical knowledge of structural aspects of lang & communication provides the teacher with a means of understanding how children construct hypotheses in the process of acquiring spoken & written lang. Teachers need to realize that reading ability cannot be reduced to the simple process of decoding symbols, but must be viewed as primarily a process of recovering meaning from texts. P. Farrell |
