Zusammenfassung:The usefulness of the distinction between compound & coordinate bilinguals was addressed. Spanish-Eng & Eng-Spanish compound & coordinate (N = 36 each) adult bilinguals were asked to give intra- & interlingual free & restricted word associations to equivalent English & Spanish stimuli for which the responses of monolingual speakers were not equivalent. Results indicate that there are differences between compound & coordinate bilinguals; however, these distinctions are not great enough to justify distinguishing between them solely on language acquisition context. 4 Tables, 1 Figure.
